Roots of the Xavante People
Approved by Rouanet Law and by Mendonça Law.

The aim of the project Roots of the Xavante People is the edition of a photograph book with 144 pages, size 27 X 30cm, 120 full-color photos, an exhibition and performance of Dance of the Xavantes Indians.

The book and the exhibition will show a visual rescue of the culture of the Xavantes Indians, their day-by-day life and the several rituals which compound the essence of their habits. Now-a-days there are 206 Indian ethnic groups speaking 180 different languages.
The Xavantes Indians belong to the trunk of the linguistic group GÊ; they live in villages in the middle of the "cerrado" and now-a-days they are around 7 500 Indians who live in 7 reserved areas in Mato Grosso. This work has been developed in the village of Pimentel Barbosa, by invitation of the community.
